Acid Dye Kit Instructions
Supplies
Dye Kit + Silk or Wool + Stainless Steel Pot
Each natural dye kit will dye up to 2 yards of fabric (Wool or Silk) or 600g of yarn (Wool or Silk).
- 1 yard/300g PER COLOR -
There are two colors per kit. The instructions below are for ONE color, you will repeat the steps for each of the colors in your dye kit.
Step 1: Prepare Dye Pot!
-Fill a stainless steel pot with water, bring temperature up to 180F.
-Add in one vial of dye powder
-Add pre-wetted fiber to pot.
Step 2: Activate the Dye!
-Add in one vial of citric acid powder.
-Hold at 180F for half an hour, gently stirring periodically
-Allow to cool, and gently rinse with warm water until water runs clear.
-Wash fiber with a mild detergent.
