Natural Dye Kit Instructions

Dye Kit + Natural Fiber (Fabric or Yarn) + Stainless Steel Pot
Each natural dye kit will dye up to 1 yard of fabric (Cotton, Linen, Wool, Silk, or any other natural fiber) or 300g of yarn (also only natural fibers).
Use pH strips to make sure water is a neutral pH of about 7.
Step 1: Scour the fabric!
-Add your fabric or yarn to a stainless steel pot and fill with enough water to cover the fibers.
-Bring temperature up to 160F.
-Add in the Synthrapol and Soda Ash.
-Hold at temperature for 1 hours, gently stirring occasionally.
-Remove from heat, allow to cool, and gently rinse with warm water.
Step 2: Mordant the Fabric!
-Fill a stainless steel pot with enough water to cover fibers. Bring temperature to 160F and dissolve Alum in water.
-Add fiber while still damp from scouring step.
-Remove from heat, cover pot, and let soak for 2 hours.
-Allow to cool, and gently rinse with warm water.
Step 3: Dye the Fabric!
-Fill a stainless steel pot with enough water to cover fibers. Bring temperature to 160F and dissolve Dye Extract in water.
-Add fiber while still damp from mordant step.
-Hold at 160F for minimum 1 hour. You can remove your fiber after 1 hour, or let your fiber soak in the dye bath up to 24 hours for a deeper shade!
-Allow to cool, and gently rinse with warm water until water runs clear.
